Layter!

Welcome to Layter! A brand new Colorado Springs improv comedy troupe.

You may be wondering:

  • Who is Layter?
Layter is the newest improv comedy troupe to form in Colorado Springs. If you've seen Whose Line is it Anyway then you have a good idea of what Layter wants to do.

  • Why improv?

Improv comedy is a BLAST! It isn't nearly as much to watch as it is to perform and if you've seen it performed then you know how much fun that is.

  • Who is starting this troupe and what is your background?

Hunter Willis is the comedic engineer behind Layter. Those familiar with the Colorado Springs improv scene will no doubt recognize Willis' name as the King of Colorado Springs improv. He is a co-founder of the wildly popular Stick Horses in Pants improv comedy troupe. He acted as their primary trainer and show-getter over the years and led the drive behind the troupe winning many awards like Best Theater Troupe, Best Artists, and Netflix Greatest Kisser.  He left the troupe in the summer of 2009 for personal reasons.

  • What is the vision of this comedy troupe?

The vision is pretty simple: to become the premier improv comedy troupe in the region and eventually the Mountain West, and later the country. The vision is be known around the country as a provider of hilarious improv comedy. And all of that begins with clean comedy. Clean comedy appeals to the masses and has a broad appeal for corporate hirings. Not only that but so few comedians keep their show clean that we'll be in high demand once we work out all of our kinks!

  • This sounds awesome! Can I get involved?

Absolutely! We're currently in the process of auditioning and would love to bring in experienced players. Here is what it takes to succeed as an improv player in Layter:

    *A fun, can-do attitude!
*Previous stage experience. In improv your stage precense needs to be instincual
*A willingness to try and fail. You'll fail in improv. You won't always be funny. The audience won't get it. Your teammates won't get it. If you have a problem putting yourself out there then Layter isn't for you.
*A teachable spirit. Hunter has spent hundreds and hundreds of hours studying, practicing, and performing improv. He is willing to teach you everything he knows and he wants you to succeed.
*Commitment to the craft -- we're going to practice every week and the expectation is you'll be there. You need to have a love for what this stuff. It is super fun and brings joy to the fans but there is lots of dedication that goes into making each show excellent.
*Understanding that improv is different from stand-up. In improv you don't go for the snappy one-liners or try to be the star. The successful improv show is when people walk out and there is no concensus as to who was the favorite of the night. You have to push pride aside -- and this is difficult -- and set your teammates up to succeed. When everyone is allowing everyone else to succeed you have brilliant improv.
